Another Christmas Picture (or Two)

I just thought I'd throw in a few more Christmas pictures with Isis. She is such a cutie. She certainly seemed interested in this whole Christmas thing.

From what I could tell, her favorite parts were playing with wrapping paper, hanging out with her grandparents, and playing with all her new toys, probably in that order. Then again, she can be pretty hard to figure out sometimes.

Isis and the avalanche of gifts

Isis loved Christmas at Grandma and Grandpa's house. She was so wound up that she wouldn't sleep. Grandma and Grandpa didn't want to put her in bed anyway, so it worked out. We are working on getting her back on her sleep schedule again. When you have a baby that sleeps for 12 hours a night, you don't like to mess with it too much.

She has developed hobbies now. Things like sitting in her Bumbo seat and throwing toys on the floor. Also, she likes to jump in her jumperoo, but only if you are watching her. She's a complete showoff.

We loved Christmas at Grandma and Grampa's house too. It was great to see Darin and Laura and mom and dad and take a little time off. We even went to a movie! We wish we could have seen all the family for Christmas, but you were all in our hearts. We miss you!

Isis speaks! Well, sort of...

Isis has started babbling lately, so we thought we'd share with the world. I am pretty loud in the video, but then again, I'm pretty loud in real life too.

Happy Birthday Jeff!!

Its Jeff's birthday! We went to the brand new Cheesecake Factory for dinner. They threatened us with a three-hour wait, but we ended us getting a table in an hour. The food was really good. Now, Jeff is busy playing with his new bluetooth headset for his phone.

One thing we will never get used to with the baby is the early mornings.

This weekend, my parents came and stole the baby. It was nice. We had a good weekend of adult time. Thanks Mom and Dad!

Isis in her crib

Shelly took this short video of Isis being happy in her crib. We thought it was cute, so we figured we'd pass it on. We are certainly getting a lot more happy and interactive moments with her now, which is a relief after having a baby that would only scream and eat (sleep too, though rarely). She's becoming a much happier baby.

Isis is starting to develop a bald spot on the back of her head, but its no wonder. She slept for 11 hours last night!! This does not mean 11 hours with a couple of feedings in there. 11 hours straight!!

She won't let us put her on her tummy to sleep. If we put her on her side, she just rolls to her back. She won't let me "wear" her in a sling. She absolutely loathes "tummy time." She just spends a lot of time on her back, so her baby pattern baldness will continue.

We are getting a lot better at not feeling like ogres when we leave her to cry or play by herself in her crib. She taught us this. We read so many different things. I was worried that if we let her cry we would be teaching her helplessness. But, then we noticed something important. We would put her down for bedtime and she would cry. If we went in and picked her up, she would cry for hours and be inconsolable. If we left her there to cry a bit, she went to sleep and slept for hours and was happier in the morning. I hate to hear her cry, but the smiles when she wakes up make me a believer.

She is starting to cry just to see us too. She will cry for a while in her crib and when we peek over the side she looks at us and grins. She just wants to know we're there. It is getting better like everyone said it would. We are getting close to three months and now I am starting to feel like a person. Its not great. She still screams a lot and it is really trying to take her anywhere. But, I feel like this too will pass. I just would like the teething thing to wait as long as possible.

Late Halloween

I worked Halloween night, but Jeff handed out candy with Isis. When I got home, there was a picture of Isis wearing a witch hat and a video of her screaming on the camera. I guess she was dressed appropriately. I, on the other hand, had a lovely night of taking care of injured and sick people.

Baby you can drive my car

Well, we were interviewed for an article for the Salt Lake Tribune today. I'll let you know when it is printed. This woman is writing an article on colic and interviewed us about our colicky baby. Of course, Isis is fascinated by new people so she was pretty happy the whole time they were here. That's how it goes.

It turns out that someone is writing a book about colic. He claims it doesn't exist. I'd like to let him watch Isis for a day. The book would never happen.

On the other hand, we are holding her a little tighter these days because a friend of mine at work just had one of her grandbabies die. The baby had all the risk factors for SIDS. He was a twin who was a serious preemie that had been through an awful lot, but he had been home from the NICU for a few weeks and they thought he was doing well. My heart really goes out to their whole family. I can't imagine and don't want to try. Today, I'm thankful for the screaming.

I'm even more thankful for the giggling.

STRESS

Well, we were overly enthusiastic about Isis sleeping this weekend because she was back to fussy and not sleeping yesterday. The nanny, however, always seems able to get her to sleep. I'm afraid to take her out of her car seat.

I have a huge paper due for class tomorrow, so she will be going back to the nanny again tomorrow. I hope I can finish the paper in time.

Jeff and I are meeting with window people to replace the big windows in our living room and kitchen. That should be pricey and messy. We're not looking forward to it.

New Blog

Well, it seems like Joan and Leon's kids are doing it, so we should too. Hate to be out of the loop.

Isis has started taking naps and we couldn't be more pleased. We're convinced the nanny is drugging her. She sleeps at the nanny's house and comes home happy. We are anxious to find out her methods.

Overall, we're doing better. Less screaming and more sleeping makes us all happier. Plus, the nanny is worth her weight in gold.

Jeff's dad and his girlfirend, Mary, came for a visit this weekend, but Jeff and I were sick all weekend. Isis even had a fever. So, we were pretty lame for the whole visit. It was nice to see them anyway and they got to meet Isis even though she slept.

Admittedly, she is sleeping less now that she is feeling better, but she is smiling more. We are still working on catching one of these elusive smiles on film.
